David Bernstein

In the context of the Image Generator, David Bernstein will build a Sukkah pavilion for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. The holiday celebrates the end of the harvest and the tradition is to build a temporary hut outside where meals can take place. For this occasion Bernstein has invited the architect Oleg Asoiev to collaborate with him by designing a special pavilion space where people can gather and relax. The artist will be serving a special cocktail themed on the Lulav and Etrog ritual rain dance that is performed on Sukkot. After the festival, the hut will remain in place for 1 week. At the end of the holiday on October 6th, a special Sukkot celebration will be organized in collaboration with Justine Jaz Okolodkoff, Lara Bongard, and Michelle Woods. At this event, there will be a conceptual dinner, collective decorations, and a queer film screening program.

David Bernstein (US) is an artist who combines performance, sculpture, and writing to tell stories through objects. His projects deal with a range of subjects: psychology, wellness, fetishism, and spirituality. David is a Judeo-Futurist who reclaims rituals, objects, and symbols from the past in order to rethink them and queer them. Next to his individual practice, he collaborates with a variety of people and participates in building community at Shabbes 24/7 (Belgian Jewish diasporist queer collective) and at Level Five (Brussels atelier cooperative). He is currently a resident at Morpho, Antwerp and preparing an upcoming exhibition at Kunsthal Extra City for December 2023.
