Untitled (Idou Fiyad Khouh – Sa main dans la main de son frère) is a site-specific, three-channel video installation that takes as its starting point the symbolism of a stork resting, a metaphor for a pause after a long migratory journey. For The Image Generator, the installation is interwoven with travel shots from Europe and Morocco drawn from the artists’ archive.
The footage is fragmented according to a geometric pattern titled Idou Fiyad Khouh, or ‘His hand in the hand of his brother’. Two elements of the pattern and their inverse forms alternately obscure parts of the image, allowing the footage to flow continuously through the pattern without ever becoming fully visible.
Benjamin Verhoeven & Amine Lahrach
Since 2021, Benjamin Verhoeven (1990, Belgium) and Amine Lahrach (1995, Morocco) have been developing a joint practice between Brussels and Marrakesh. Coming from different cultural and geographical backgrounds, they use the camera as their primary tool for dialogue and exchange. Their work questions identity, cultural transmission and intercultural imagery. At its core is the search for l’image commun, an image without singular identity, able to exist in multiple places at once. Their collaborations have been shown at Lichtekooi Artspace in Antwerp, the 1-54 Art Fair, Riad Alena in Marrakesh and Malhoun Artspace Marrakesh.
